FAFSA on how to obtain a FAFSA ID

May 2016, Issue No.55

FAFSA Switches From PIN to ID. What You Should Know.
Have your students applied for FAFSA yet? It is important to advise them that the way to access FAFSA has changed. Students must now get an FSA ID, instead of a Federal Student Aid PIN, which has been retired after 17 years.
New requirement: Students will need a FSA ID to apply for Federal Student Aid
Here is a breakdown of the new ID:

WHAT is FSA ID?

FSA ID (Federal Student Aid ID) is the new username and password students will need to log into Federal Student Aid websites and to sign FAFSA. It replaces the old Federal Student Aid PIN and is more modern and secure.

WHEN should students get an FSA ID?

As soon as possible! It must be done before submitting FAFSA.

WHY should they get an FSA ID?

Students cannot access a Federal Student Aid website without it. This includes fafsa.gov or StudentLoans.gov. If submitting FAFSA online with signatures, students and their parents MUST have separate FSA IDs to legally sign the document. If a student has an ID, but their parent does not or cannot, they should choose the option to submit without signatures and print and mail a signature page.

HOW can students get it?

Students can register for FSA IDs at StudentAid.gov/fsaid. If registering for the first time, they can submit FAFSA right away. If they have an old Federal Student Aid PIN, however, they should link it to their new FSA ID. They will then need to wait up to 3 days for email confirmation that the accounts have been verified and linked.

Johns Hopkins University summer program for sophomores and juniors

For High School Juniors and Sophomores

Dear Colleague,
We hope you have had a successful school year and are ready for summer! There are many different ways for students and families to learn about Hopkins in the coming months. We’re planning an eventful summer and would love to see your students here on the Homewood campus.

We appreciate your help spreading the word about our summer programming by sharing the following links with interested students.
We’re offering our regularly scheduled daily visits on weekdays and select Saturdays. The events offer an information session led by an admissions representative and guided tours with a current student.
On selected dates this summer, families are encouraged to pair their visits with a Summer Series presentation designed to introduce a specific aspect of the Hopkins experience.

Topics will include women in STEM, pursuing a career in the humanities, impacting the world with a liberal arts education, premed, and financial aid. Students can RSVP online.

Geared toward high school sophomores and juniors.
Held on selected Saturdays throughout the summer, these events include an information session, current student panel, and campus tour. It’s great chance for students and families to hear from current students, ask questions, and get a feel for campus life.

Space is limited, so please encourage interested students to RSVP today.
Our admissions committee staff will be hosting workshops to help students start thinking about how to prepare their strongest application. These limited-space, on-campus programs are an excellent resource for students who are starting the college search process.

Please encourage your students to visit apply.jhu.edu/summerworkshop to learn more and register. (Advance registration is required. July 15 workshop is reserved for residents of the Baltimore area.)

Geared toward high school freshmen and sophomores.
In the meantime, learn more about Hopkins by exploring our website and following us on Facebook and Twitter. You can also hear directly from current students at Hopkins Interactive, where you’ll find student blogs, photos, videos, and more.

Sincerely,

Office of Undergraduate Admissions
